Vimeo isn’t just for watching videos, it’s also a pretty powerful platform to host your stream and while there are more advanced options out there we would recommend using it over something like YouTube for a number of reasons. Not least the lack of bandwidth restrictions. For more on choosing Stream Engines, take a look at our guide.

To live stream on Vimeo you need a Pro Account. There are two options that offer live streaming, Premium and Enterprise. Premium comes with plenty of storage and has no limits on the number of streamed events you can create, and so is the best choice for most users.

In order to broadcast the Vimeo stream to your Eventcube Live Stream Page, you’ll need the embed code from Vimeo — if you’re unsure about embed codes, read up on them here.

Creating an event on Vimeo and configuring settings

First up, you’ll need to create your event on Vimeo’s video management system.

The process is easy, and Vimeo has a simple guide of its own to help with this. But to speed things up we’ll walk you through it now.

First, login to your Vimeo account and click New Video. Then Create Live Event.

You’ll be prompted to enter the Name, Date and Time of your live stream event.

You will also need to set the privacy — for ticketed live stream events on Eventcube this should be set to Only I can see this event.

It’s also possible to enable domain-level embed policies. You can find these under Where can this event be embedded? The options are:

  • Anywhere - Open for anyone to embed on their site

  • Nowhere - Embedding the stream is not possible

  • Only sites I choose - Input the URLs of the sites you have approved to host the video

Vimeo’s default setting means there will be a Viewer Count displayed on the embedded video. To remove this, head for Account Settings, then Videos and finally Upload Defaults.

Now select Hide video stats and viewer count on the video page and in search results. You will need to manually deselect this next time you want a Vimeo live stream event to display the Viewer Count.

If you archive the broadcast for people to watch on Vimeo after the live stream is over you will also be able to adjust Privacy Options for viewing this in the same way you would any standard video uploaded to Vimeo.

Where to find your Vimeo Live Streaming Embed Code

In Vimeo’s video management system, select the stream you want to use for your Eventcube Live Stream Event, then go to Live Settings and finally Embed.

At this point you can customise the stream in a number of ways. This includes creating playlists and loops, Watch Later and Share buttons, and Autoplay — there are different options available for recurring and one-off live stream events, and you can find a breakdown for both types here.

Once you have the stream settings you want, you’ll find a preview of what the embedded player will look like at the bottom left of the screen. Below this you have options to Add Thumbnail images, adjust Start Time and display a Schedule.

As you will have done these things within Eventcube’s own system, simply click on Event embed code. This opens a box containing the embed code.

You will need to choose between Responsive — so the video embed adjusts to suit the size of the device it is being viewed on — or Fixed, meaning a static height and width of video will be used no matter how it is being watched. We always recommend opting for Responsive.

Now, copy the embed code from Vimeo into the Live stream embed code box in your Eventcube Live Stream Event. This is found in the Live Stream tab of the event, which is accessed through your Dashboard when you select Events from the menu.
